Tasseomancy
The Art of Reading Tea Leaves
Tasseomancy is divination accomplished by reading tea leaves. To try it, you’ll need loose tea or dried herbs and a teacup with a plain white, light-colored, or plain interior.
Place 1 teaspoon dried loose tea herbs into the teacup. Fill the cup with very hot (not boiling) water, top with a saucer, and steep for 5 minutes. Remove the saucer and enjoy the tea, leaving a bit of liquid in the bottom of the cup.
Now, pause and “ask” the tea leaves a silent question. Cover the teacup with your hand and swirl it deosil (sunwise) several times. Remove your hand and allow the marc – the wet leaf material – to settle. Observe it carefully. Are any shapes, patterns, or images clearly apparent, such as animals, trees, etc.? Does the marc create any impressions or insights? Have you received an answer to your question?
